Maj. Gen. (res.) MK Yoav Galant

Minister of Construction and Housing. Born in Jaffa, Israeli hero, fighter, officer and commander, served in the IDF for 35 years in senior positions. In 2002 he was appointed military secretary of the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, and was promoted to the rank of Major General.
In his last position he served as commander of the Southern Command for five years. During this period, he dealt with three main tasks: border security and counterterrorism in the Gaza Strip, the establishment of the defense system on the Israel-Egypt border, and preparing the IDF in the south for any operational scenario. As part of his job, he prepared the fighters and commanders and commanded the Operation Cast Lead.
Studied in the Harvard Executive Training Program.
He is involved in volunteer activities in various organizations, including the Impact Foundation, of which he is one of its founders, and grants scholarships to discharged soldiers who require financial assistance.
Served as chairman of the Friends of the IDF Veterans and Disabled Persons Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Hashomer Hadash and a member of the Board of Directors of “Madatech”, the National Museum of Science, Technology and Space, Haifa.
Married with three children.
